ISTAR Sets To Support Combat Battalions

Combat battalions and Battalion Task Forces belong to major combat units of the current forces. An effective deployment of the combat battalion implies a proper ISTAR architecture development as well as artillery and air force fire support including:

  • Millitary Intelligence, including Human Intelligence (HUMINT) and Imagery Intelligence (IMINT);
  • Surveillance for the needs of Military Intelligence, fire support and reconnaissance, including detection, target recognition and identification (location range, heading and coordinates);
  • Target Acquisition for the needs of Military Intelligence and fire support including CAS – Close Air Support and CCA – Close Combat Attack;
  • Reconnaissance including tactical, combat and engineering reconnaissance including employment of unmanned and robotic systems as Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), Unmanned Ground Vehicles and autonomous sensors (UGS).

ISTAR systems to support combat battalions shall secure and support all of the above mentioned activities, even when the forces are dismounted.
